Application Process for Ordination as a Presbyter
1. Fill in the forms (links below):
a) the Application for Ordination as a Presbyter
b) the Confidential Questionnaire for Presbyter
c) The online ‘Applicant Declaration and Consent’ form
2. Make an appointment to meet with Chris Moroney, Ministry Training and Development, Level 2, St Andrew’s House. Go through the forms and talk through the process.
3. The main trainer is your Rector. You will be expected to meet with him regularly and cover all the things that you need to know to be the Rector of a parish.
4. A couple of times during the year, meet up with Chris Moroney.
5. At the end of the first year in the programme, ask your Rector to fill in the form: Ministry Evaluation Presbyter Candidate, and talk it over with you. This is sent to the members of the Presbyter Panel.
6. Come in for an interview with the panel, usually with your wife. We also ask that you prepare a one page summary of your family background and personal interests. A family photo should also be included.
7. In the second year in the programme, ask three pay people to give you feedback about your ministry. Toward the end of the year, ask the lay people to fill in the form: Ministry Evaluation Presbyter Candidate. Your Rector should also fill in a new report using the same form. These are sent to the members of the Presbyter Panel.
8. Each year, after the panel interview, a recommendation will be sent to the Archbishop, indicating the outcome of the interview. Once the Archbishop, approves the recommendation, you will be sent a letter.
9. At some stage, towards the end of the process, you will be asked if you want to be considered for a position as a Rector, immediately, or much later. You could be on the “active” list, ready to be considered by parish nominators, or on the “on hold” list, waiting until you felt ready to be considered by parish nominators for a parish.
10. The letter of approval that you receive from the Archbishop indicating your approval to be ordained as a Presbyter, will indicate
a) whether you are on the “Active” or the “on hold” list; and
b) that your ordination to be a Presbyter will take place in the parish to which you will be inducted. The Ordination and the Induction usually take place on the same night.
